On joining a competitive club, all Munster swimmers begin by competing in a Development 1 gala. There are no qualification times for these galas and swimmers will not be disqualified for stroke violations etc. However, each club will be given a record of their swimmers who have committed stroke violations so that this can be corrected going forward. The events at Development galas are 50m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke, 50m Freestyle and 25m Butterfly.
Depending on the swimmers age and the times achieved at Development 1 galas, the swimmer moves up to Development 2 galas (meets), then Regional Qualifying Meets, then Short Course/Long Course Championships, then National Division II, then National Division I, European Championships and then, before you’ve had time to clean your goggles, you’re in the Olympics!
