5th of June 2017 notes

Congratulations to our swimmers who took part in the Munster/Connaught IAG in UL from the 2nd to the 4th of June, all events taking place in the Olympic-sized pool.  This is the business-end of the swimming season with Swim Ireland representatives keeping an eye out now for potential national talent.  Killarney were represented by a wonderful team of 11 swimmers – Julie Rose Bowell, Aisling Coffey, Marta Doberschuetz, Nathaniel Doncel, Pia Hickey, Charles O’Brien, Robert O’Brien, Emer O’Dowd, Ethan O’Neill, Alan O’Shea and Orlaith Reynolds.

Charles O’Brien powered to a silver medal in the 200 metres breaststroke and added another Division 1 qualifying time to his CV.  Meanwhile his brother, Robert O’Brien won a tasty trio of bronze medals in the 200 metres backstroke, 200 metres breaststroke and the 200 metres Individual Medley.  Also swimming with great determination was Julie Rose Bowell to get her qualifying time in the 200 metres freestyle.  Finally, we must mention Pia Hickey who managed to knock an outrageous 20 seconds of her time in the 200 metres freestyle.

Thanks to our Senior Coach, Cathal O’Brien, for all his work in Limerick and to all parents who travelled and helped out during the gala.
