21st January 2018 notes

Congratulations to our swimmers who took part in the Development 1 Gala in Tralee recently with substantial improvements by our swimmers on their own “personal best” times and a very satisfactory haul of medals given the stiff competition.
Over 14 boys – Niall Coffey had a great day out winning a full set of medals – gold in the 100 freestyle, silver in the 50 backstroke and bronze in the 50 butterfly.   Jack McGuire, another serious contender in this age group, took the bronze in both the 100 IM and 50 freestyle.
Over 14 girls – Imogen O’Connor was the girl on fire on the day winning golds in all of her events – the 100 IM, 50 backstroke, 50 freestyle and 50 breaststroke – must be something in her DNA.  Chloe Whelan turned on the style winning a very impressive gold in the 50 butterfly and then followed that with a pair of silvers in the 100 IM and the 50 freestyle.  Mairead Egan was another girl setting down a marker winning silvers in the 50 butterfly and 50 backstroke and bronze in the 100 IM, which meant that Killarney won all the medals in the 100 IM!  Saoirse Sweeney finished off a very good day for the club with a tasty bronze in the 50 breaststroke – well done, Saoirse.
Thanks to our coach, John Edwards, who gave huge support and encouragement to all our swimmers. Thanks also to all parents for travelling and taking part in timekeeping duties.
