28th of April 2019 notes

Congratulations to all our swimmers who took part in the Cadet Invitational Gala in Limerick last Saturday, bringing a fantastic haul of medals back to Killarney.

Girls under 10 – Well done to Ella Cremin who won a stunning bronze in the 100 backstroke.

Girls under 13 – Faye O’Neill had a wonderful day in the pool winning golds in the 50 breaststroke and 50 butterfly while Meabh Doolan did her bit by winning bronzes in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke and Sarah McAuliffe took bronze in a very difficult 50 butterfly.

Boys under 13 – Peter O’Doherty was the star of the show, sweeping the board with golds in the 100 breaststroke and 50 freestyle, and silvers in the 100 freestyle and 50 breaststroke. Liam O’Leary produced some great swims and took silver in the 50 freestyle and bronze in the 100 backstroke. Fiachra Roarty won a fast silver in the 100 backstroke, Cathal Mackey won bronze for Killarney in the 50 backstroke while Jake Sparks took bronze in the 100 IM in what was a technically difficult race.

Girls under 14 – Emilija Berzina won a beautiful silver for the club in the 100 backstroke.

On Sunday, Paul O’Leary showed us why he is truly one of the club’s superstars, seizing a magnificent silver medal in the 200 breaststroke in the Distance Limerick Invitational.

Thanks to our coaches, Cathal O’Brien and John Edwards, who gave huge support and encouragement to our swimmers. Thanks also to our squad manager, Mairead Horan, and to all parents for travelling and taking part in timekeeping duties.
